Have You Seen These Illustrations?

We need your help.

Pictured below are photos of original cover art that have been sent to BookScans in hopes of identifying which paperback cover, dust jacket or magazine the artwork was used for.

If anyone can identify the publication a work was displayed in, please email me and I'll pass the information along to the owner. I will also indicate that particular mystery has been solved, and credit you as the sleuth who figured it out.

As additional pictures are sent to me for identification, I'll post them and contact the Vintage Paperback Yahoo Group to spread the word that a new piece of cover art needs to be investigated.

If you send me a picture: Please include descriptions of any writing or marks on either the front or back of the painting.

1) Description: Arctic

Publisher: Most likely AVON.

Date: Most likely 60's to 70's

Artist: Unknown

Notes: On back of board the only markings are the number 540 circled, and the number 7369 underlined with number 44 underneath the line. Neither of these appear to give any indication of the book number.

2) Description: African Pirate

Publisher: Most likely Grafton (UK)

Date: Most likely late 70's to mid 80's

Artist: Richard Clifton-Dey

FOUND!

A website viewer has idetified this as the cover for Black Pirate, by Robert Tralins. New English Library , 1971

3) Description: Left Profile of Model Ginny Gaylor

Publisher: No Idea

Date: 1962

Artist: Jack Faragasso

Notes: The back of the painting has the words "Model: Ginny Gaylor" written in black sharpie. This is the 1st and only time I've ever seen someone make a point of writing the cover model's name on back of the art, so I originally thought that maybe Faragasso painted her for fun. But the fact that he purposely left the standard empty area at the top for logo and type placement makes me feel it was at least INTENDED for publication. Also written in black sharpie are the initials T.W with Aug '62 beneath it, further demonstrating that it was at least INTENDED for publication.

4) Description: Gothic - Woman at top of Stairs

Publisher: AVON

Date: 1970's most likely.

Artist: Franco Accornero

Notes: The cover has a protective brown paper over it with an encircled 406. It also has "Our voucher1005277 reference 5277-10" written in ball point pen and scribbled out. Elsewhere on the same sheet of paper the number 1005277-10 is written with only the 5277-10 circled. Online searches for this number have come up empty.

5) Description: Gothic - Woman/heavy fabric pink dress earthy browns background

Publisher: Tower

Date: Most likely 70's

Artist: Steve Gross

Notes: The back of the painting has the word "Tower" written in pencil, as well as the words "For Art Director Chi???".

6) Description: Two Females Nude Under Graduate Robes

Publisher: No Idea

Date: Can only judge via footwear and Hairstyles. Best guess is 70's to early 80's.

Artist: Unknown

FOUND!

Glenn Goggin has identified this as a movie poster for Summer School, 1979 (The Courses are Never Too Hot for Our Student Body!)

07) Description: Gothic - Redhead in Yellow Dress/Castle background.

Publisher: Probably a "Large Type" Berkely Medallion

Date: 1970's

Artist: Harry Barton

Notes: The back of the painting has no markings whatsoever.

Publisher: No Idea

09) Description: 3 Female Heads on Brown Background.

Publisher: No Idea

Date: 60's or 70's

Artist: MikeLudlow

Notes: The front of the painting has the working title "Three Women" pencilled in on the bottom border. There is also a "Three Women" notation on the back in black sharpie, the number 12016 in black marker and the encircled number 44 written in red ball point pen. My research has found there are MANY books with the title Three Women written by various authors, and I've even found scans for several different versions of those books, but not yet one with this cover art.

10) Description: Couple on Top of Hill at Sunset

Publisher: Avon

Date: 60's or 70's
