Introduction: The Earthbound and the Orbiting Classroom by the author. Friend tries to explain what SF is and how it can be used in the classroom. She quotes from many sources and individuals to establish certain points. Friend attempts to give a short history of science fiction and manages to mention all of the basics. The author covers much territory on the teaching of SF, and, overall, does a very good job by providing questions for study and lots of further reading.
