The New Encyclopedia of Science Fiction

edited by James Gunn

Viking, New York. 1988. Hardcover in dust jacket. 524 pages. (7 X 9½). Editor’s foreword by Gunn. A very long list of contributors follows. A list of essays in alphabetical order is next and these cover SF subjects. The encyclopedia covers authors, illustrators, films, SF personalities, comics, and TV. There are a number of photos showing different authors and other assorted subjects. A checklist of movie and television entries is included at the end. This is a good encyclopedia, but some critics believe it to be inferior to the one by Nicholls.
