edited by Marshall B. Tymn
R. R. Bowker Company, New York. 1981. Trade paperback. 559 pages. (6 X 9). Foreword by Peter Haining. Preface by the editor. An academic research tool. Tymn has the help of many well-known individuals, who provide histories and short essays on important books in the field. Each book item is number-coded for cross-reference. The fields covered are: the Gothic Romance, Modern Masters, the Horror Pulps, Supernatural Verse, and Reference Sources. Mike Ashley seems to be pretty much in charge of the reference research section. The author provides a core collection checklist of important books.
