The author attempts to give a history of fantasy, examining all of the different sub-genres. It presents many essays on the different forms and presents many listings of authors and titles. There is a section that covers the many authors, with information about their writings. Nearly all of the items are number coded and there is an alphabetical index of names and terms that refer back to these titles and names. There are other indexes covering illustrators, terms, and titles. Interesting for the time, but now out-of-date.
