This work was published in two volumes and the first covers the contents of each magazine alphabetically and chronologically. The print is small and difficult to read. Nevertheless, it is an important work in locating mystery stories.

Volume 2. Garland Publishing, Inc., New York. 1988. Hardcover without dust jacket. 695-1183 pages. (5¾ X 8¾). The second volume covers all of the stories by author. Each entry has a code to identify the source. For Instance, Hammett’s story The Hat Trick is identified as 13BQ1 meaning it appeared in Black Mask [1st Series] volume 13, #1. If you know a title but can’t remember the author, you will be out of luck until someone provides a book of story titles.
