Compiled by Marc Gerald.
Pharos Books, New York, 1992. Trade-sized paperback, 324 pages. An interesting piece of literary trivia about crime fiction is that many authors wrote in non-fiction publications; though oft times, these magazines were pretty sensationalistic. They included Master Detective, Daring Detective, True Detective, Exposed, and others. Also, many of the authors had "day jobs" that added to their expertise. Hammett was a real private eye, Gardner was a real lawyer. Many hardboiled authors started out working for newspapers.
