Hagemann explains in the preface how he decided to construct a Black Mask index. One of the biggest problems was to locate all of the issues and to work with index cards. The index is arranged alphabetically by authors’ last name and then alphabetically by story title. Each story has a number that runs from 1 to 2509. Many of the entries are annotated with additional information. A good index, but I wish someone would provide one with the table of contents and a title index.
