The Fantastic Pulps

by Peter Haining

1975, Vintage Books. Thick, trade size paperback, 430 pages (5¼ X 8). Stories, but with a twist. The pulp magazine writings of some pretty heavy-hitting authors, including Stephen Crane, Upton Sinclair, Mackinlay Kantor; as well as the regulars, such as Burroughs, Merritt, Max Brand, Hammett, etc. But each story is preceded by a two-page article about the author and the publication. A section in the center has interior illustrations and short blurbs about the artists. A nice book.
