Danger Is My Business

by Lee Server

Chronicle Books, 1993. Oversize paperback, 144 pages. Another big, flashy, brightly illustrated history of the pulps. In this one, Server breaks the publications down into genres and gives brief, one-chapter general histories of pulp magazines and principle authors for Adventure, Western, Detective, Romance, Hero, Weird Menace, Fantasy, Sex, and Science Fiction pulps.  Lots of great cover art, as well as many interior B&W illustrations. Server also wrote Over My Dead Body and The Encyclopedia of Pulp Fiction Writers, also critiqued in my reference section.
