Lead characters in the early pulp magazines are discussed. Jesse James, Nick Carter, Raffles, and Jimmy Dale are some of real life and fictional people examined. Sampson was one of the leading pulp nonfiction writers of his day, and does a good job writing of pulp magazine history. There are several examples of early pulp covers included.
