How to Run a Paperback Bookshop
edited by Sidney Gross and Phyllis B. Steckler
R.R. Bowker Company, New York. 1965. Trade-sized paperback. 139 pages. B&W illustrations throughout. I don't think any of the major original paperback publishers foresaw this trend in the mid-60's. It didn't last, of course, but the history of the paperback boom period couldn't be better illustrated than by a how-to book of the era. It talks about finances, overhead costs, inventory, depreciation, how to discount slow-moving books, fixtures, shelving, floor space, displays, customer relations, and much much more.
