How Paperbacks Brought Modernism to Main Street

by Paula Rabinowitz

Princeton University Press, Princeton, NJ. 2014. First editions. Hardcover in dust jacket, light blue boards with black quarter binding and gold lettering on the spine. 390 pages. B&W illustrations with a section of color illustrations in the middle.

This is a pretty comprehensive history of paperbacks in the U.S., though it emphasizes certain social issues (racial, political and sexual) above others, and how they were treated by the mass market presses. It contains more than 70 pages of footnotes, as well as a detailed index.
