Introduction: Knights in Rusty Armour and Other Journeymen of Justice by Maxim Jakubowski. The editor asked a number of authors and critics to submit a list of two or three characters, and the editor would assign a detective to each. They would then write an essay on their favorite detective. A number of famous detectives were not included; namely Travis McGee, Philo Vance, Mike Hammer, and Nick Carter, and many others. A bibliography of stories and novels follows each essay. A section is dedicated to the contributors and tells something about their lives.
