Note: The winner of "The Most Confusing Publisher Award" goes to Atlas Mystery. There were two publishers. (Some collectors believe there were as many as 11, including Bard, Cornell, Gem, Euclid, Hercules, London, Margood, Mohawk, Select and Zenith; but according to Kenneth R. Johnson, all of these non-numbered books were put out by publishing houses owned by Martin Goodman. Click HERE and navigate to the "Publishers" section to learn more.) Vital Publications issued the numbered series. In Ken's on-line book, he lists the order of publication he believes probably occurred for the non-numbered books and which company published them. Below, I've just listed them alphabetically by title.
* NEXT: The "Babysan Books," which I've listed by their titles because they were each printed by different publishers (Kasuga Boeki and Charles E. Tuttle respectively). They were released simultaneously in the U.S. and Tokyo in 1953 and 1954, with appropriate pricing for both countries. (The occupation of Japan ended in 1952.) They are primarily cartoons by Hume, and they would probably be considered politically incorrect by many people today.
AND FINALLY: There's the case of Big Green #5. There are two of them on this page (one is listed as Big Green Detective #5). PLUS, The Little Dog Barked is also listed as Green Publishing Company #5. Ken Johnson says he has noted the Green Publishing "Fox Head" colophon on the back of his copy of Green #5. My copy has the Big Green triangle colophon on the back cover. So it appears there are two different printings of this book.
