I consider the images in the other sections of this web site to be in the public domain. The books are items that were sold by companies and purchased by individuals. Taking pictures of those items is not illegal. It is the books' contents that are primarily considered protected material.

The colophons are manifestly different. Most of these images are still protected by the copyright laws of the United States. They are presented here for informational purposes only. A historical study of the books and and their publishers would be impossible without considering the emblems that those publishers used to identify themselves. In many cases, the evolution of those emblems is certainly just as interesting as the evolution of the cover art that adorned the volumes.
